Meeting Point

Tinos Port

Situated in the Cyclades archipelago of the Aegean Sea, the picturesque island of Tinos offers several opportunities for memorable experiences. On this tour, participants will have the chance to discover important aspects of the island’s multifaceted cultural heritage.

First stop, the Museum of Marble Crafts, which offers visitors the opportunity to discover the importance of marble in Greek architecture and the visual arts, from Antiquity to the present day. The permanent exhibition presents in vivid detail the whole range of marble tools and techniques and focuses on origins and development of marble craftsmanship on Tinos, the most important modern Greek centre of this expressive medium. At the same time, it highlights the social and economic context in which the local workshops developed.

Then, esteemed marble sculptor Petros Marmarinos welcomes the participants to his workshop and makes a short introduction about himself and his profession and then gives some information about his place. He then discusses the material (marble) and the place (where the material comes from). This reference includes the School of Fine Arts of Tinos (PESKT), the museums of the village and the contribution of the marble crafts of Tinos to the Greek culture. Materials, tools and objects are then presented and finally there is a short presentation/demonstration by the marble sculptor on how he works with marble on a work in progress.

Our third stop involves the Tsoclis Museum, which houses creations by acclaimed Greek artist, Costas Tsoclis. The museum offers its visitors the possibility of enriching their holidays aesthetically, and to some of them the prospect of understanding and being moved by enriching their souls as well. Every year a different unity of creations by Tsoclis is exhibited at this museum, bringing the viewer into contact, even if only by association, with the universality of contemporary Art.

Last but not least a visit at the Cyclades Microbrewery on Tinos. The microbrewery at Vagia, very close to the port of Tinos, is housed in an old stone building, once a taverna, which has been lovingly refurbished and repurposed to accommodate equipment from all over the world. During the tour, you will see the brewing process at first hand and gain a fascinating insight into the art of quality beer making. No doubt the highlight for many will be the moment you taste freshly brewed NISSOS beer served directly from the tanks…
