Ancient Agora

The perfect option for very young guests, this tour engages children through play and games and is set in the Ancient Agora, a beautiful and lush open-air site that becomes a playground for exploration and learning.

This tour is designed for ages 6-11 — but it’s guaranteed fun for the whole family!

Focusing on a day in the life of a young Athenian in the Ancient Agora, this tour is the perfect way to introduce children to antiquity and archaeology. Through play, our young guests are encouraged to explore life in ancient Athens, understand the role of the Agora, and learn about the fundamental principles of democracy that were born here. The tour also introduces young guests to the process of archaeological discovery, in a fun and approachable way that resonates with young minds.

Explore the Ancient Agora and learn about its key role in public life from the principles of democracy that were honed here to the fun games that children played on these grounds over 2,000 years ago.

Visit the Temple of Hephaestus, formerly known as the Theseion, and hear the fascinating tale of the hero Theseus and his feats against the Minotaur.

Take a guided tour of the Museum of the Ancient Agora, with a particular focus on exhibits related to Athenian democracy and the everyday life of children in ancient Athens.

Along the way, children will have the opportunity to learn about the work of archaeologists and will try their own hand at bringing the past to life, with an opportunity to assemble a simple toy that was all the rage in antiquity!
