Where are you from? When did you move to Athens?
I am from the UK, and grew up on a farm. After that I spent 15 years living and working in London before deciding to move to Athens. That was almost 2 years ago – and one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Describe your academic focus in one sentence.
I am an environmental psychologist and a horticulturalist and through my work I explore the relationships between people and the natural and built environment.
What’s the most surprising fact about your field of expertise?
So many trees and plants have such fascinating stories, particularly here in Greece where they have been used since ancient times for symbolic reasons, and their histories are weaved into Greek mythology.
What is your favorite place to visit in Athens?
Aside from the National Garden of course, I love walking the graffiti-covered streets of Metaxourgeio, taking photos and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. It’s especially great at this time of year when Carnival takes place!
What is your favorite part about interacting with guests on DGC?
Meeting people from all over the world and having the opportunity to introduce them to such a special part of the city I now call home.
